About The Town Of Bridgnorth Shropshire

Welcome to the historic market town of Bridgnorth, often mispelt Bridgenorth, located in Shropshire , UK. It is split into Low town, on the edge of the River Severn and High Town these are uniquely connected by the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway. On the very peak of High Town are the remains of Bridgnorth Castle and Saint Marys Church, and in the very centre of the High Street is the seventeenth century Bridgnorth Town Hall. Also located in the High Street is the Northgate Museum, while on branching streets visitors will find the 1850s building known as Bishop Percys House.

On the way down from High Town to Low Town, past a abundance of public houses, steam enthusiasts will find the Severn Valley Railway that runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster.

Once in Low Town the breathtaking views of the River Severn in the summer, that creates all new unique views when it floods in the winter. Caves cut into the sandstone still exist in which some of the former residents of Bridgnorth lived, more of these can be found hidden away on the Hermitage when leaving Bridgnorth towards Wolverhampton.

More recent history includes the fact that Bridgnorth may well have been a targeted headquarters for the Nazis in World War II, and closer to today Bridgnorth has proudly won the attributed Britain In Bloom competition
